Vanessa and Jonny’s Engagement - Katy, Texas

Chad and I had the opportunity to hang out with Vanessa and Jonny out in Katy for their rockin’ engagement session!

We started out in Cinco Ranch. They have awesome ponds and waterfalls everywhere and they totally complement this fun couple’s cool personalities.

I think this one is my favorite!

I adore these sweet and tender moments!

Oh, and we’re totally going to pretend that there was never a “stay off the rocks” sign… because if there was, we totally ignored didn’t see it.

After the neighborhood park, we went to the La Centerra at Cinco Ranch shopping center for some more unique locales.

See? I even make stores under construction fun! (Okay, Vanessa and Johnny totally make it awesome, but I can take a wee bit of credit, right?)

Right next to LaCenterra is this lovely lake. I couldn’t have asked for more perfect light.

And I never asked them to kiss… but who needs my permission, right? ;)

These two will be tearing up the dance floor at their wedding! Check out those moves!

Thanks you two! I can’t wait for your wedding!

Flickr’s Explore

Sometimes it’s the small achievements that make me excited.

For my blog (and for sharing, fun, and sometimes silliness), I host the photos I post on here on my flickr account. Flickr had an area called Explore and shows some of the best photos based of what they call “intrestingness” and… well, they can explain it better than I can.

Interestingness!

Besides being a five syllable word suitable for tongue twisters, it is also an amazing new Flickr Feature.

There are lots of elements that make something ‘interesting’ (or not) on Flickr. Where the clickthroughs are coming from; who comments on it and when; who marks it as a favorite; its tags and many more things which are constantly changing. Interestingness changes over time, as more and more fantastic content and stories are added to Flickr.

We’ve added some pages (and changed some existing ones) to help you explore Flickr’s most interesting content. Before you start though, you might want to take your phone off the hook, send your boss to an executive training session and block off some time on your schedule, because we don’t think you’re going to be walking away from your screen any time soon. Beautiful, amazing, moving, striking - explore and discover some of Flickr’s Finest.

Since I’ve posted the below photo last Sunday (up until right now) I’ve had 4,867 people view the photo, 334 people mark it as a favorite, and 95 people comment. On Sunday, September 28, 2008, I had the #1 photo on flickr. I’ll have more from Mark and Jackie’s wedding (and subsequent day after / trash the dress session) later, but for now, let me show off. ;)

Rachel and Rob’s engagement session - Downtown Houston, Texas

During the summer, I always get a few photo shoots that are canceled and rescheduled due to the weather.  This summer I had two that were rescheduled multiple times… Brad, Janae, and baby Bryce and then this couple, Rachel and Rob.  Ironic thing is that these two sessions have some of my favorite photos ever!

I haven’t shot in downtown Houston in quite a while.  Many of the parks, including the new Discovery Green require a fee for each session.  Well, Rachel and Rob decided to brave it and instead of heading to the big parks, we started our session at the outdoor cafe across from the Alley Theater.

I love their tiled walls!

We found a little area to get some shots with the iconic Bank of America Center behind them…

After a few shots there, we headed away from the pavement and down to Sesquicentennial Park on Buffalo Bayou.  This was actually my first time shooting down here, but it is now definitely one of my favorite places in Houston!

Playing with desaturation and some textures in the best light ever.

This has got to be my mostest favoritest photo EVAR.  (I’m a dork, I know.)  :)

Total Hottness…  :P

… followed by silliness…

… and love.

Thanks Rachel and Rob!  Y’all were so much fun!

Caryn and Shane’s Enagagement Session - Tomball, Texas

Chad and I hung out with Caryn and Shane right before July 4th for their engagement photos.

Caryn had selected these unique and beautiful locations for their shoot.  First, we went to Shane’s brother’s neighborhood, the Parks at Glen Arbor in Tomball, to shoot the first part of their session at the neighborhood lake.

An approaching storm stopped for us to give us this dramatic sky

From there we moved on to Vintage Park...

Caryn and Shane are planning their honeymoon in London, so this Tuscan themed center was a close to Europe as we could get for the day.

Jumping!

Jumping!!

They called this one their album cover. I love it!

They called this one their “album cover.” I love it!

After the fun shots at Vintage Park, we headed to the nearby HEB Vintage Market for some photos with… shopping carts.  (I’m weird, I know.)

We’ll call it a “buggy rodeo”…  :p

I am certain they will choose this one for the newspaper!  ;)

Thank you Caryn and Shane!  We had a great (and silly) time with y’all!

Jenna and Wyatt’s engagement - Spring, TX

Let me preface this blog post with a story; The story of how Jenna and Wyatt found us, Kelly and Chad.

Chad is horribly addicted to this website TexAgs.com (and I make fun of him all the time for it). He was doing his usual purusing when he went on one of the Texas boards and saw a posting where someone was wanting info on a “good wedding photographer in Houston.” So Chad piped up with, “A shameless plug for my wife.”

A week or so later, we get an email from Jenna saying that her fiance, Wyatt, with his TexAgs addiction, came across the thread, checked out our website (along with the many others on the thread) and loved our style.

So Jenna and I have conceded that TexAgs is perhaps not all bad.

Jenna loves the old, rustic locations, being a country girl and all, so we decided to start the night by going to nearby Old Town Spring.

This couple was so sweet, and so much in love, and we had such a great time with them that I didn’t want to stop shooting - even late into the night!

Ring shot! It took us a pathetically long amount of time to figure out how their hands went together. It’s that whole spatial orientation issue.

Jenna and Wyatt 12

My advice to any girl: find a guy that can make you laugh this hard and you’ll always be happy!

We walked over to these railroad tracks to shoot a little more. We thought it would be nice and isolated, but were we wrong! The side I really wanted (directly behind me with the setting sun) was taken up by another photographer doing a model shoot. On the other side of the tracks (literally) was a pretty noisy bar with a live band. They were hollering at us and some drunk lady even came sloshing through the mud to ask us what we were doing (and tell Jenna and Wyatt that they are so cute, which I have to agree with).

Then I saw a guy at the bar holding a beer in one hand and this wooden ukulele in the other. I walked over, asked him if I could borrow it, handed it to Wyatt and asked him to serenade his woman. He’s a natural.

After our own version of live music, they decided to do a little dancing to the band playing from the bar.

After the railroad tracks and turning down the invitation to party and drink with the bar-goers , we walked back into historic Old Town Spring and got a shot of them at this red school house since Jenna is a teacher.

Only in Texas do you shoot these kind of shots….

To round up the night, we drove up to The Woodlands and got some shots at the fabulous waterway.

Another ring shot. Ladies, you’ve gotta show off your gorgeous ring!

They were so sweet letting me drag them out so late, that we rounded up the night with a bit of silliness, and some cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory. Yum!

Teresa and Rick’s Engagement Session - Cypress, TX

Chad and I knew that Rick and Teresa were going to be a bunch of fun as soon as we arrived at their house for their engagement session. They answered the door in their fun “Jimmy Buffet” shirts and asked, “Do you want wine or beer?”
(I like either of those options, thankyouverymuch.)

It tuns out that this couple has a beautiful backyard with a sparkling blue pool and lush, green landscaping. We really enjoyed shooting in this couple’s private tropical oasis!

As a pooch lover myself, when they suggested getting some shots with their 100 lb Doberman, Ace, we were all for it! He’s such a great poser.

Did I mention how much I loved their backyard?

Teresa is a Texas transplant and a proud Florida State Alumni. And Rick, well… he loves St. Arnold’s beer. I hear he has successfully completed many tours of the local brewery.

They had their back patio completed just a week before, so got some photos of them enjoying it.

After their backyard, we went to a local park.

outtakes!

Couples in love are so much fun!

One of my favorites…

And they will live happily ever after…

Thanks Teresa and Rick! We’re looking forward to your fall wedding!
